Kelly Clarkson Files For Divorce From Brandon Blackstock After Nearly Seven Years of Marriage

From Gary Dinges of USA TODAY
Kelly Clarkson is divorcing her husband Brandon Blackstock.
The 38-year-old filed court papers to end the marriage under her married name Kelly Blackstock on June 4 in Los Angeles, according to the Associated Press.
The first American Idol champion, Clarkson married Blackstock in 2013. They have two children: daughter River, 5, and son Remington, 4.
Clarkson cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split and requested that she not be required to pay Blackstock spousal support.
The filing asks that the singer's legal last name be restored to Clarkson and it indicates that the couple had a prenuptial agreement.
USA TODAY reached out to representatives for Clarkson and Blackstock for comment.
Blackstock, 43, is Reba McEntire's former stepson. Clarkson first met Blackstock when he worked as Rascal Flatts' road manager.
In a 2012 USA TODAY interview, Clarkson said she was instantly attracted to Blackstock and that he had influenced her music choices. The two had their first date on Feb. 11, 2012.
They got married at Blackberry Farm in Walland, Tennessee, in October 2013, opting for a low-key ceremony because of their busy schedules.
"He's opening me up to new songs that I probably wouldn't have given a second chance," she said at the time. "I don't know if I would have chosen a song like 'Don't Rush' if I hadn't experienced being in love and if I hadn't gone through what the song is talking about."
Clarkson has been keeping busy recently. In addition to dropping a new single during the coronavirus pandemic, she has her own daytime talk show and is a judge on NBC's The Voice.
