Gail Edge - Sunrise: April 4, 1947 -- Sunset: December 11, 2015
I want to open Cancer Awareness month by talking about my first caregiving assignment, Gail Edge. This woman was a warrior in every sense of the word. The day she was diagnosed with a rare but deadly cancer called "Angiosarcoma", sure, she had fears. She had her worries. It was that same day when my WWE Shop order of the first John Cena "Rise Above Cancer" set came in. I looked at that shirt and the first words I read were "Never Give Up." Never Give Up. Three little words that meant so much.
After I read those words, I sat down, and I talked with Gail. I told her that I know she was scared. I knew she had her fears. I told she could just lay there and feel sorry for herself for getting the disease or she could fight with everything she's got. I also promised her that I would be at her side through it all. She promised me she would fight and she did.
For three years, she had this cancer beat. Then she got the news that she wasn't expecting. It was news her family hadn't expected and I surely didn't see coming. It came back.
Two years later, she passed away two weeks shy of Christmas, and three weeks shy of another New Year.
To this day, I miss her smile, her positive attitude, and her devotion to God. I can only imagine what's going on in Heaven with her right now.
Gail Edge, on this first day of Cancer Awareness month, I salute you. You were such a warrior in fighting this disease. I miss you and I praise God for you.
