Analysis: A Big Warning Sign For Trump’s 2020 Reelection Effort in This New Poll I6ke0

It has not been a good couple of weeks for President Trump’s poll numbers. While they’ve been relatively steady throughout his two years in the White House, the government shutdown has pushed his approval rating as low as it’s been at basically any point.

One number in the most recent Washington Post-ABC News poll might be more troubling.

According to the poll, 56 percent of registered voters — a clear and statistically significant majority — say they will “definitely” not vote for Trump in his 2020 reelection bid.

If you're a Donald Trump supporter, you are looking at this number and have to be thinking, "Uh oh! We gotta get Trump reelected in 2020. He's the only one making America great... again." Except those Trump supporters need to know and realize that Donald Trump lies... frequently. Numbers, unless they are doctored or "fixed" NEVER LIE!

Yeah, it is worrying for him.

Of course, his supporters may point out that both Bill Clinton and Ronald Reagan were at least as unpopular at roughly this point in their terms - and then, they got re-elected anyway. However, Clinton got re-elected because he pivoted to the centre, and Reagan got re-elected because the economy improved. Neither looks particularly likely in Trump's case: he's unpopular in spite of a good economy, and he doesn't seem to have the self-awareness required for a pivot to the centre.

There is still time for him to make the kind of course-correction that he needs; however, if he dismisses all negative polling numbers as "fake news", then he's not going to make that course-correction...

Well, kiss it goodbye. He will dismiss it as "fake news." That's what he does. Remember, Donald Trump lies. Polling numbers do not.
